29. No Country For Old Men
Though it took me 3 viewings to figure out what Tommy Lee Jones was even doing in this movie (his character seemed completely unnecessary – and then I realized he’s the “old men” in the title) I enjoyed the heck out of it nonetheless. Surely this is the tensest, most intelligent and horrifying cat-and-mouse chase of the decade. Both Brolin and Bardem bring a unique intelligence to their characters; the result is that the whole thing feels both dreadful and darkly funny. And if you’re going to choose a “best scene of the decade,” I think the gas station – coin flip scene would have to be in the top 10. The Coen Brothers deliver, yet again.
