Top Movies of the Decade #78

78.  Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

sympathy_for_mr_vengeance The first in Park Chan Wook’s Vengeance Trilogy (though the second released in the United States,)   “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” is the film most focused on the backlash and deadly cost of revenge:  no one here emerges unscathed.   That might make it the hardest one to watch, and it does verge on unbearable at times.   But it also oozes style, creativity and originality;  people die in “Mr. Vengeance” in ways that will stick with you for weeks, ways you’ll never see repeated in any other movie.   That may be the kind of thing that draws you to a movie; it might also be a giant, flashing warning sign that you should stay away.   You decide.
