Top Movies of the Decade #81

81.  Ocean’s 11

oceans11Smart, stylish, and star-studded,  “Ocean’s 11” is one of the few (very few) remakes that is legitimately, honestly better than the original.   Clooney and Pitt have remarkable comedic chemistry between them, and they are surrounded by a supporting cast that seems to know exactly when to shine and when to let the stars do the shining.   And on top of that, it’s a clever, surprising caper plot with enough twists and suspense to keep things interesting throughout.   The magic wasn’t repeatable though;  “Ocean’s 12” is a bloody mess and “13” a movie everyone wishes hadn’t been made.  But “11” was magic.   Pure magic.

(PS – Remember the game “six degrees of Kevin Bacon?”   Kevin Bacon is old news.   The new center of the move universe is “Ocean’s 11.”  I think it’s possible to connect any and every movie made in the 2000s back to Ocean’s 11 in 6 moves or less.  Give it a shot.)
