What’s on DVD this week? Why, quirky indie romcoms and pointless exercises in shocking behaviour, of course.
Away We Go - Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) goes indie in this quirky romcom starring Maya Rudolph, who was so terrible for so long on Saturday Night Live.
.
.
Filth and Wisdom – Madonna’s directorial debut; apparently it’s all filth and no wisdom. Roger Ebert called it “a pointless exercise in “shocking” behavior.” Sounds like another movie out on DVD this week. Namely….
.
.

The Girlfriend Experience - Steven Soderbergh’s latest experiment stars a “real” porn actress as a high class call girl in New York. I tried to watch this(because of Soderbergh, not Sasha Grey) and it was so boring and wordy I gave up.
.
.
Management – Steve Zahn, Jennifer Aniston and Woody Harrelson in a quirky indie romcom. Aniston seems to be modelling her career after Woody Harrelson, so it’s about time they worked together.
.
.

Monsters vs. Aliens – kids won’t get the references to 70′s b-horror movies(at least, they shouldn’t)but their parents will (at least, they should.)
.
.
Shrink – Witness a talented actor who has lost interest in acting. Ever since Kevin Spacey left Hollywood to direct the Old Vic Theatre in London, his film performances have felt like called-in, “I just need the paycheck” efforts. Is Shrink any better than “21″ or “Superman Returns” or “United States of Leland?” Probably not.
