DVD Roundup

storyThe Reader - Kate Winslet gives the performance of her career as a for Nazi SS Officer who seduces a teenage boy so that he’ll read to her.   I thought it was a great, powerful, conflicted movie, but some thought it was just dressed up teenage pulp fantasy garbage.  Decide for yourself.

American Swing – documentary about wife-swapping in New York in the ’70s.   Crazy times.

Splinter – Monster of the Week fare.   Romantic couple get kidnapped by not-so-romantic couple, and they all get attacked by a bloodsucking monster who lives in the woods.

The Spirit – after delighting us with the distinct visual style of his comic books and the movies that got made out of them, Frank Miller (300, Sin City) decides to try his hand at directing.   And you know what?   He’s a pretty great comic book writer.
