A New Thing: The Movie Blog. (And “12:08 to Bucharest.”)

Everyone has a blog.  Even Roger Ebert has a blog nowadays.  So I want one.

Thing is, I watch a lot more movies than I can review.  750 word, highly polished, brilliantly witty reviews aren’t that easy to turn out.   Two a week is about all I can manage.  But I can throw a few words together about a movie, an opinion, an observation, an objection.  So that’s what the movie blog is going to be for – that, and other random stuff, like the rise of Casey Affleck, the fall of Joaquin Phoenix, and the puzzling return of Helen Hunt.

These posts will not be regular, they will not be polished, and they will be open for debate and discussion (all the reviews are as well.)   They’ll just be things I’m thinking about movies, or movies I just watched, or…. whatever.   I’ll try to keep them interesting.

So.  Onward.

Last night I watched the Romanian film, “12:08 to Bucharest.”  Yawn.  There are about twenty funny minutes in the movie, concerning a local access TV talk show going horribly wrong in funny ways.   Too bad there is an hour of meandering leading up to that twenty minutes.   This might have been a funny skit on SNL – better than anything I’ve seen on that relic in years.   It would’ve been really fun to stumble across it on cable, not knowing that what you’re watching is staged.   Too bad cable never shows movies with subtitles.
